Day 38-40(40 days closer to Christ)

Day 38
Read John 20:1-18
The journey
Examine your life. What is your greatest need?
Sometime today find a way to seek the Lord.Find in Christ the answers you long for.Dare to reach a new level of understanding.

Day 39
Luke 24:13-32
The journey
Learn to use the scriptures to receive personal revelation from the Lord.
Take some time today to find a scripture that speaks to you.

Here is the scripture I found that jumped out to me:
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Let his spirit abide in your heart by reflecting on that scripture throughout the day.

Day 40
Read Joshua 3 and 4
The journey
Either figuratively or literally, gather twelve stones.Assign each stone to represent a blessing that you have recognized in your journey toward Christ.
Share these blessings with your family.Testify how you are coming to know Jesus. What are the stories you can tell about how he had strengthened, enlightened, comforted,or otherwise blessed you?

There is so much I have gotten so much out of this experience.First I learned I do have time to read my scriptures.Period! No excuses.I also loved having my kids see me reading. It was a lot of time, but it really wasn't a sacrifice.
There were so many differences in my day.I was more happy and found more time to reflect and have peace. If I wanted to be guided I was.Often times to call a friend or follow a feeling.
When I wouldn't get any sleep I would feel mercy and somehow make it through my day.I felt more balanced and centered. As a family and as parents I felt more united and love in our home.We were quick to work things out and wanted to serve each other more.
What I learned to sum it up is ,to make a move closer to Christ he makes two more towards me.He makes up the difference.I truly know he is right there we just have to ask!

Day 35-37(40 days closer to Christ)5 ways our home is founded upon Jesus

Day 35-
Read Mark9:17-27

 The journey:
Take time to identify and write down an area in which you feel you are not enough. This could include challenges that are physical, temporal, spiritual,or emotional.
Take it to the Lord.Plead your case in prayer.
____________________
Day 36
Read Mark 10:17-22 and Mark 12:41-44
The journey:
Think of someone you know who had given all in service to the Lord. What can you learn from that person? How can you be more like him or her?
Commit today to give all you have in your service to the Lord.Choose one area where you feel you could give more. What changes will thus require in your daily routines?
_____________________
Day 37
Read Ether 12
The journey:
Remember grace comes after all you can do Take time to analyze a trying time in your life.Place it at the feet of the Lord.Keep a written record of the greater things and unspeakable gifts that will come as He leads you to the promise.

Ether 6:3 The Lord touched the stones and made them shine. How can this apply to our life?

As I though more about this application into my life,I realized that stones have come to mean a lot in my life. There are 5 analogies for rocks that have helped me come closer to Christ.
1.Symbol of miracles and light in the darkness. He is always there. He will not leave us alone. He will not leave us in the dark. There are times in our life when we need to do all we can do first, before he can answer our prayers.
2.prioritizing
In the following jar of rocks story,we are guided to look at our priorities first.Do the important things first(big rocks) and then the rest will fall into place. If we read scriptures, pray, teach, spend time with family, and keep our house in order these can be the big rocks.Plus we still have time and room for more!

~Jar of Rocks story~
In his book First Things First, Dr. Stephen Covey relates the following story:

One day this expert was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration I'm sure those students will never forget. After I share it with you, you'll never forget it either.
As this man stood in front of the group of high-powered over-achievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz." Then he pulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed mason jar and set it on a table in front of him. Then he produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar.

When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes." Then he said, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks.

Then he smiled and asked the group once more, "Is the jar full?" By this time the class was onto him. "Probably not," one of them answered. "Good!" he replied. And he reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in and it went into all the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked the question, "Is this jar full?"

"No!" the class shouted. Once again he said, "Good!" Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked up at the class and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?"

One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit some more things into it!"

"No," the speaker replied, "that's not the point. The truth this illustration teaches us is: If you don't put the big rocks in first, you'll never get them in at all."
3.Build upon a sure foundation, our "rock" Jesus Christ
Jesus as part of his Sermon on the Mount, he gave this counsel: “Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matt. 7:24–27.)
4.Finding the right balance in our life.It is truly an art to find the right balance between, family, work, play, spiritual and many other "rocks".

5.Seeing things in perspective. If you take a rock and put it up to your eye. What do you see?Your view is blocked by the rock. This can be like any situation in our lives. If we look at a problem it can seem too big for us to handle. If we can look at it differently and take the pebble from our eye we see it is not so big and scary and we can find a way to handle it!There are many points in my life where a tiny pebble looked like a boulder simply because I was so overwhelmed and thought so negatively!
Richard G. Scott-"A pebble held close to the eye appears to be a gigantic obstacle. Cast on the ground, it is seen in perspective. Likewise, problems or trials in our lives need to be viewed in the perspective of scriptural doctrine. Otherwise they can easily overtake our vision, absorb our energy, and deprive us of the joy and beauty the Lord intends us to receive here on earth. Some people are like rocks thrown into a sea of problems. They are drowned by them. Be a cork. When submerged in a problem, fight to be free to bob up to serve again with happiness."(General Conference April 1996)

I want each of you to find a rock big or small and put it somewhere where you can see it daily.Look at it and see how tiny it is.Think of peace, light, balance, perspective and what your foundation for your life it s.Ask yourself if there is anything not in harmony with what you want, and cast it from your mind and your life.

Take back your Turf Thursdays

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! We sure did!Was it a whirlwind for you too? Most likely there is so much we want to do.We may even have unexplained energy. On our list of to do's is probably to take control of our homes again.Am I right?
The only thing I want you to do today is take time to record the memories! We will be taking lots of pictures for tank you cards. Then go around the house and in each room write down what needs to be done. While you are there with your pen, paper and your hope for a better year for 2014,pick up wrapping paper and remaining boxes.Make note of toys and things received and where you would like to put them.Don't put it away yet though! We are still playing and resting today.Oh yes and dreaming!

The second feeling is to make this feeling we have last all year! What if I told you you can!It is what I am calling my reaching in and reaching out.Let me explain because some of us are still so exhausted from our holidays! You might be wondering what I am talking about or if this is going to be one more thing you have to do!It should be enjoyable and help us be better and more kind, and giving. It will help us stretch and bring a little heaven into our home.It should feel like a breath if fresh air.I expect we will all take this journey differently. It is ok to slow down.We have a tendency to think of the New year as a time start over. This is great, however I want to make sure the goals we set aren't too ambitious and we burn out before the end of January! If this sounds good I hope you will be watching for my first post!I am really EXCITED! I hope you can feel my energy through my words!

It is about YOU,
FAMILY and making your HOME a heaven on earth.

Coming soon.......I am taking back my kitchen and finishing my command center! Here is what I bought today.........

Day 25-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Christmas came so fast, but it is not over! The presents are all unwrapped this is true, but we made promises to the Savior so now we will be focusing on that.We are also still including him in our dinner conversations.

We will also be leaving the nativity scene out all year to remind us of What the center in our home should be.I am going to keep the gifts to the Savior next to it!I had to use this picture again because he is so excited!

We spent a lot of time with family and friends. My hope is to continue to strengthen these relationships too.It will take some prioritizing but family and Jesus are what this time of year is all encompassed around!

Day 24-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas(Gifts to Jesus)

Thomas S.Monson-In our day the spirit of giving gifts plays a large role in commemorating the Christmas season.I wonder if we might profit asking ourselves. What  gifts would the Lord have me give to him or others,at this precious time of year.

To go along with this thought we wrote down gifts we are going to give the Savior this year.I put them in a box to open Christmas after all the other gifts. Then we will wrap it up and put it where we can see it all year long and open it next Christmas to see how we did!I am hoping this will keep the spirit of Christmas all year!

Day 23-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Scripture:
Mathew 2:16-23
A present's wrapping acts as a protection to the gift. This is just like Jesus being protected from Herod.Joseph was warned in a dream. The Lord protects us today.

Sing carols and read Christmas  books. The kids also get to sleep underneath the tree.

Well sometime they will go to sleep, when they aren't doing experiments with the dog and balloons.

Day 21 and 22-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Day 21
Today was a busy day with family. We spent some time at the temple.I love how you can feel the Savior near.
Then off to a family party.By the time we got home it was so late.It was just one of those days where there was little time for extra.

Day 22
Our church had a beautiful Christmas program, with amazing music and talks. My husband and I even got to sing in the choir!
We also did a progressive dinner with family. We started at our house with appetizers.
I made,by popular demand the little penguins. If you look you can see I did a different set up this year. The penguins were sledding.
Here's this years:

One of the penguins biffed it on his sled!
These two are sweet hearts!I have so much fun with this!It has become a tradition.
Here's last years:
He is ready for his close-up!
I also made taco bowls with re-fried beans, salsa, sour cream, and chopped green onions.I tied one of the onions into a bow.A little tricky!I then arranged the cups to look like a wreathe.

Then to the next house for hot chocolate. Afterwich we went to the next house for dinner. Our final stop was desserts and games!

File it Friday- How are you going to end your week?

File this week under:A new perspective

I am grateful to a few people this week who sent me encouraging texts and calls.Grateful to my daughter who did her chores without complaint. This is HUGE for her!I am so grateful for my husband who did a ton of dishes! I am grareful for my husband'sunderstanding of the house being a mess.I am also grateful to have known my husband's Grandma who has been gone a year this week. She loved Christmas and this year we know she is celebrating in heaven. As we celebrate Jesus this holiday we celebrate her and her life.

Three things I accomplished this week:
I volunteered at my kid's school.I survived 2 days of my husband not being home.I shoveled snow out of my driveway for 3 hours and now I am sore!

3 goals for this week:
1.Finish Christmas preparations and enjoy my family!
2.Slow down and create family memories.
3.Get my room clean before new year.

Day 32-34(40 days closer to Christ)4 gifts to bring Jesus into our home in 2014

Day 32-
Read Isaiah 50:10-11
Challenge:
Write down some ways you have been able to turn to the Lord for direction and support.
Write down some of the ways you have learned to trust him.
Today find one way to share your testimony of these two principle .with someone who is struggling.
Day 33-
Read Luke 10:38-42
Challenge:
Remeber who you are. What are you best at?What gift can you offer? How can that gift bring more joy to the people around you?
Choose to give the better part today.Find one wary that you can use your gift to serve someone else's need.
Day 34-
Read Luke 19:1-6
Challenge:
Find a place you can go to focus on the Lord.
Make haste and invite the Lord into your home. How will you prepare to receive him?

I have been doing a lot of thinking along these lines.I sat tonight looking at my Christmas tree all lit up and pondered on what I can do better in this new year. Here are 4 gifts I want to give the Savior this upcoming year. These are all big things!
1.It is hard to always feel peace in your home.Sometimes I can have all four of my kids or just some causing grief at one time! The biggest thing I can do is control my attitude and temper. If I am doing the fortifying of my home(reading scripture and praying as anindividual and family);then tbe atmosphere in my home is lighter. There is less arguing and more working together.
2.Love your spouse and make sure the kids know you love him/her.
3.This is something I am trying to be more mindful of and that is talking about Jesus more often, not just when we pray and read scriptures.
4.Nourish my spiritual self with scriptures and prayers so I can be a better Mom.I am not going to do it because I feel I have to but because I want to.I want to study and pray to draw him in!

Day 20-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Scripture:Matthew 2:3-10
The Wise men brought 3 gifts.I wrapped 3 gifts. The kids had no idea what was in it.

Gold

Frankincense and myrrh(I didn't have any myrrh).

What is in the 3rd gift.I asked what the greatest gift was. They weren't sure.I wrapped it 3 times to build suspense.......
Baby Jesus!!!See the excitement!

Day 18 and 19-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Jesus created the earth in 6 days and there are 6 days until Christmas!!!

Day 18
Scripture:Luke 2:18-20
Song:It came upon a midnight clear
Day 19
Scripture:Mathew 2:1-2
Hid the wise men and had the kids try to find them. Will they find their way to Jesus?......

We are like the wise men that sought the baby Jesus,in that we all take our own journey to find him. Each of our journeys are different and may be difficult. Some days it may be a journey to fall down on our knees and pray.

President Benson said, “And now, my beloved brothers and sisters, what must we do this Christmas season—and always? Why, we must do the same as the Wise Men of old. They sought out the Christ and found Him. And so must we. Those who are wise still seek Him today. ‘I would commend you,’ urged Moroni, “to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written’ (Ether 12:41). And God has provided the means—the holy scriptures, particularly the Book of Mormon—that all who seek may know that Jesus is the Christ. (Ezra Taft Benson, “Keeping Christ in Christmas,” Ensign, Dec 1993, 2)

Song:We three kings

Hint about tomorrow: I am wrapping baby Jesus for what....

L is for light.Jesus is our light.-preschool and baby lesson

Letter:L
Shape:Star
Go over colors and counting.
Nursery Rhyme:Star Light, Star Bright

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

The main focus of this lesson is focused on Jesus. He is our example and our light. He helps us make good choices. He loves us.We talked about her billions of stars in heaven and how a star shown to show the shepherds and wiseman the way.We have to look for him and clear a way for him to be in our lives.

Music:
1.Twinkle twinkle little star

2.I am like a star shining brightly

I am like a star shining brightly,
Smiling for the whole world to see.
I can do and say happy things each day,
For I know Heavenly Father loves me.
Play right hand one octave higher than written.

3.Jingle bells

For baby3+ and up. Teach ASL sign for star to go along with the songs. We are still doing milk, more, all done,Mom,and Dad. I took glow in the dark stars, and other reflective objects.Other objects I used was spoon, pan, aluminum foil.He looked at the spoon and then banged it on the floor. He loved to crumple and look at the aluminium foil.
What they are learning:fine monitor and hand eye coordination.

We played with a flashlight and my kids dream lights. We put the image on the walls so the boys could chase the stars.
Next I put it under a toy bin.The baby used the bin to pull himself up and to bang on it.

Craft:I drew a star and L.Next we took tissue paper and glued it on.

When we had our church program someone made this little nativity. We used it for dramatic play.My preschooler liked lining them all up.

Day 29-31(40 days closer to Christ)Make Christ the center of your home.

Day 29
Read Luke 22:31-32
Challenge:
Find one way you can strengthen someone today.
I am taking serious my role as a teacher in my home.I tried to look for as many opportunities to teach my kids as I could.I had special one and one time with each of my kids to talk to them and see how they are doing.

A big change I am undergoing is the way I respond when the kids aren't behaving.I want them to be obedient because they choose to be.So if the kids ask me why after I tell them to do/not do something ?I am not going to say "because I said so" but say because it would make Jesus happy and me or "think how you will feel if you do/don't do it.

Day 30
Read Mathew 14:22-23
Challenge:
Today remember to focus on Christ. In your conversions, celebrations, you're teaching moments and your thoughts.Long to be near him.
I like how Emily points out how when  after a long night of fishing and not catching anything,in the morning the disciples see a man on the shore. When Peter recognizes him,he jumps in the water. That is how eager we should be to have him near and to want to do those things to bring us closer.
Emily Freeman also mentions 2Nephi25:26
"We talk of Christ,we rejoice in Christ,we preach of Christ.....that our children may know to what source they may look."
I never really thought about not only reflecting on personal experiences we are having daily with the Savior, but to talk about it more openly with our family and friends. We shouldn't be  waiting until Sunday to learn and teach. We should have discussions and offer prayers odfgratitude. If we are eagerly talking about him,it is like he is a friend and frequent visitor in our home.(at least his presence can be felt)

I shared at the dinner table with my family that I wanted to start sharing ways that Jesus was a part of our life today. The kids looked at me confused.I gave them some examples of how maybe he helped them control their temper or they may have felt good when they played with their siblings nicely.A few of the kids shared but we have lots of time to practice.I got this idea from a quote by Gordon B Hinckley. We have it by our table it reads "Christ is the center of our home, a guest at every meal, a silent listener to every conversation."

I thought he should be part of our dinner conversation!

Day 31
Read Luke 17:11-19
Challenge
Identify something you would like to change in your life.It can be your weakness personally, family, or friends.Pray for the Lord to help you.

I try to do some sort of individual goal once a week.At the end of the week I look back and see how I did.I can always use a reminder to pray for help and more frequently. If I could only do one thing tomorrow it would be prayer.

Day 16 and 17-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Day 16
Luke 2:12

Day17
Luke 2:13-14

We talked about the star.We turned off all the lights.I asked if they could see in the  dark. They said no.Then I turned on the flashlight. We talked about Jesus being our light and example.I hid 10 glow in the dark stars and they used the flashlight to hunt for stars. It was a hit!

We also made stars out of popsicle sticks and then I let them user pom poms and yarn and markers. Here is what they came up with.

Meditation Monday-How can I beat the winter blues

I have been thinking if and how I wanted to write this post. I have been writing how positive we should be and how to be happy. It is a process. There are up and downs.Well weeks of sick kids and cold weather have really gotten to me.I am finding it hard to think positive or happy.I feel isolated and trapped. Why am I saying this, when I post uplifting posts.I am human. These posts represent my struggles and what I have found to work to dig me out when I feel like I am stepping into the dark.It is hard to admit when I can't seem to get out of it as easily just by changing my negative thoughts to positive.Do I stop? No,because positive thinking is a very powerful tool.

For example I can say to myself, tomorrow is a new day.The hard part is Simone close to me has pulled away.I have been fighting to keep them in my life. However I feel it is not reciprocated. When positive thoughts fail me I pray to stay positive and to be able to let go.I am not sure how much of this letting go I will reveal to you my readers but I hope to help someone who may be struggling like me.With Christmas so close I am slowing down the speed in which I post and taking some me time again.

Why do we fight to hold on when they are gone, either physically or mentally? It has turned into resentment and hurt.It has been creeping up on me slowly and now I am starting to see it affect other parts of my life.Maybe some of you can relate to.I find myself wanting winter to be over.I can try harder to stay busy but most friends are going out of town.

I plan to refocus my time to coming closer to the Lord and ponder when dark thoughts come that my Savior is there.I may have no friends or I may have wasted today but not tomorrow.

I decided to read through some Conference talks late this evening to see what I could find. I feel peace and a direction I want to go for tomorrow.I am studying to know what God's plan is for me.I am sure I will still battle the winter blues, but I will look for his light and the light within me.In the following talk by BARBARA B. SMITH given in General conference April 1982.She said

[A mother must consider the essential purposes of life. Leo Rosten, writer, scientist, professor, has made a statement that gives us purposes to ponder:

“Where was it ever promised us that life on this earth can ever be easy, free from conflict and uncertainty, devoid of anguish and wonder and pain? …

“The purpose of life is to matter, to be productive, to have it make some difference that you lived at all. Happiness, in the ancient, noble sense, means self-fulfillment—and is given to those who use to the fullest whatever talents God … bestowed upon them.”

He continues: “Happiness, to me, lies in stretching, to the farthest boundaries of which we are capable, the resources of the mind and heart.” (This Week Magazine, 20 Jan. 1963, p. 2.)

A woman who must work to care for the needs of her children should learn the essential purposes of life and come to know the Lord and feel his love and direction. Then she can help her children know him and grow to feel secure in our Heavenly Father’s love.

Of all the creations of God, men and women are the ones that are to become as he is. We are his children. He has given us a plan, a model, and teachings that will help us gain his attributes.

We can learn to become like him as we use his ways to teach our children: establishing regular communications with them; listening, guiding, prompting; watching over them always; protecting but not manipulating; allowing them to learn by experience; correcting them in such a way that they learn to obey—not because it is our will, but because they have learned to do what is right to do to grow in wisdom.]

So inspiring right?I feel excited and ready for tomorrow.I must go bed and take care off myself so I can be a light to my children and not a mombie!

What do you do to help yourself with the winter blues?

Until next time,
Breathe,relax and be calm

Day 14 and 15-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Day 14
Scripture:Luke 2:8
Hide the shepherd ahead of time and before you read the scripture ask who is missing. Then have them look for them. The kids still love to take turns hiding them.

We also started our 12 days of Christmas where we unwrap and read a story each night.
Song:The first Noel

Cutest pink shepherd ever!@Church Christmas Party
Ice cream cone Christmas trees

Day 15-
Scripture: Luke 2:9-11
We bought a fun book The Christmas Story. The Brick Bible for kidsby Brendan Powell Smith.

25-28 days(40 days closer to Christ)

Sorry I am so late on this post.It has been hard to keep up.The most important thing to remember is to take the time enjoy the journey. If I am stressing about getting a post out then it is not as enjoyable as it should be.  That is what I am doing. Then I may go back and add more. Some things are to personal to post, but know either way this has been a meaningful experience for me.I hope it has helped bring you closer to God or given you hope or peace.

Day 25
Read John 9:1-38
Think about something that had been troubling you.Pay the Savior will touch your eyes so that you will see what you need to do differently.

Day 26
Read Moroni 7:26
In her book Emily Freeman talks about 5 steps to improve our prayers. They are
1.To ask
2.Ask in the name of Christ
3.Determine "which is good"
4.Ask in faith
5.The blessings will come
Choose one out of the five steps of prayer to focus on.How will remembering these five characteristics make your prayers more meaningful?

To have more meaningful prayers has been a huge goal and habit I have wanted to change this month.I think sometimes it  is easy to think we are doing enough by just going through the motions. However,if we really want answers and to know him we have to do more than get on our knees.I think it is time again for me to ask to say more sincere prayers.I know it works.Even though I have had sick kids and have also been down with a cold,I can't be a mombie!(mom-zombie)

Day 27
Read John 10:1-18
Think about how you have learned to recognize his voice.Find one way to hear his voice today.

I have never heard my Savior's voice directly. There are many times it is a thought that just wouldn't go away. One time it we were going on a trip as a little girl and I asked my Dad as we started to get on a on ramp.My Dad had driven this trip many times. When I asked he paused and realized it was the wrong on ramp and was able to back up and we didn't lose any time.

Some of my big decisions have been made after praying and feeling peace and having no more doubt in my mind.Times like my lds mission and if I should marry my husband. In fact all my major decisions were made after praying and thinking about it over and over.I think as long as I strive to know him and be close to him I will recognize his voice in its variety of delivery methods.
Day 28
Read Mosiah 2 focus on verse 5-6
What counsel do you remember most from last General conference.Write down the counsel given and place it somewhere you will see it often..What is one weedy you can apply inspired counsel to your life today?

For those of my readers of another faith we have a Conference every 6 months in October and April. It is an opportunity to hear our Prophet, who today is Thomas S. Monson, and other Church leaders. You can read the talks here
"These conferences are always under the direction of the Lord, guided by His Spirit.3 We are not assigned specific topics. Over weeks and months, often through sleepless nights, we wait upon the Lord. Through fasting, praying, studying, and pondering, we learn the message that He wants us to give."
" In addition to inviting us to hold personal and family scripture study, Heavenly Father wants us to regularly study and apply what we have learned in conference. I testify that those who put their trust in the Lord and heed this counsel in faith will gain great strength to bless themselves and their families for generations to come."

"Oh, how we need general conference! Through conferences our faith is fortified and our testimonies deepened. And when we are converted, we strengthen each other to stand strong amid the fiery darts of these last days."(October General Conference,Robert D. Hales)

That being said,I am afraid I do not use this resource as often as I should. In fact reading and teaching  from these talks we mentioned multiple times.I love this idea of writing a principle down and putting it somewhere you can see it!I don't want to miss out on these little improvements and ways I know God is showing he loves me!You can do this with scriptures or any inspirational thought too!

File it Friday-We should end our week on a good note

File this week:Whirlwind of craziness

As you know I like to end my week by looking back.I start out with thanking people for helping me through my week.Even though my husband is still really sick,he helped me a lot!My oldest kid helped me with the sick baby a ton!He really surprised me this week.I couldn't have done any of this week without God's help. There were times I had to peel myself off the couch.Tired doesn't begin to cover how I feel.I think I have lost some focus on my personal goals along the way.I am healthy and have been able to feed my family with creative usage of leftovers or peanut butter sandwiches.Don't judge;-) We keep it real here!

3 things I accomplished this week:I am a survivor. That is all I did this week.I did get my package out and all my Christmas shopping done.I should get my cards out this weekend. Finally! We cleaned house and threw a great cookie decorating party.

3 goals
1.Finish the laundry. It is going to take a bit with our finicky washing machine, but at least I don't have to wash it all by hand.
2.Center myself more.I feel all over the place-work on making goals to get back on track and slow down!(I am going to have to take baby steps here)
3.Finish kitchen counter and command center by the end of next month(January.)The Paper keeps coming and coming! You can't see me right now but I am pulling out my hair(s),stress......not good.Unless, it gets rid of my greys.I am not embracing these grey bandit's of my youth!

Day 12,13-25 days to a more Christ centered countdown

Day12-Luke 2:6-7.We talked about Jesus's birth and what a humble birth he had.

We ate our dinner by the tree.It was very peaceful, until my preschooler knocked over his food.

Day 13- Helaman 14:2-5
Samuel the Lamanite got on a wall and prophesied of a new star when Jesus was born.
Those who didn’t believe Samuel threw stones and shot arrows trying to knock him off the wall, but they could not hit him because the Lord was protecting him.Samuel bore a strong testimony of Jesus Christ even though many people were trying to hurt him.

We put the star on top of the tree to remind us to look up to Christ.

Song:I am like a star shining brightly

I am like a star shining brightly,
Smiling for the whole world to see.
I can do and say happy things each day,
For I know Heav'nly Father loves me.

Take back your Turf Thursday-Holiday speed cleaning (just remember S.A.N.T.A)

Wow this month is flying by.We are creative, busy and messy!Who has the time? Not me!So you need to clean in a flash?Just follow my rules from Santa...

Say goodbye to garbage.Walk around with a bag and a box.The bag is for garbage. The box is for EVERYTHING else that doesn't belong.Put the box somewhere to go through soon!Vacuum or quickly sweep floors.

Access the mess. What is left? Are your floors and top surfaces clean?bathrooms?Make a plan but try to only spend 5-10 minutes where guests might see.If your bathroom is really gross you might want to do that the night before.

Night before gets you out the door. The night before guests arrive make a plan and make sure you have the food you need.Do as much as you can the night before. After all Santa delivers his gifts in one night!

Tackle the kitchen last. Here is why?You can hide dishes in the dishwasher, closets if you can't get to them.Plus after you clean it is time to prepare and put the food together. So clear surfaces including table.Label another box for the paper and kitchen catchalls.Sweep.

Allow time for people to arrive. You want to have time for any emergencies or something you forgot. You may need to tidy up the bathroom because the kids were in there! When you do your holiday shopping ahead of time, right? Buy extras so you don't run out!Baby diaper blowouts also can happen!Be prepared for it.You need to get that stink out of your house.Scentsy and deodorizing sprays to the rescue!Try to be ready 15 minutes earlier than guests should be arriving.

Santa has his elves to help so if you can and need it,enlist in more help, or a babysitter.

Don't forget the Santa-tizer!

More ice play ninja style-If you have boys this is a must read!

My kids are really into Ninjago.A fictional Lego action cartoon. There are 4 ninjas Kai,Jay,Zane and Cole.Together they have adventures. We decided to have our own adventures,as we learn about the four elements these ninjas could use. These weapons are

  • Sword of Fire — Kai's weapon that can blast out fire.
  • Nunchucks of Lightning — Jay's weapon that emits electricity to power up things or shock anyone.
  • Shurikens of Ice — Zane's weapon that when thrown and hits something, it freezes its surroundings.
  • Scythe of Quakes — Cole's weapon that creates earthquakes and fissures when it hits the ground.

Zane is the white ninja of ice.My boys have become master's of the snow but can they make ice?

Snow flakes are a form of ice.We made snow flakes from q-tips,but they became much more! The boys were able to release streams of ice.......

We cut out the snowflake.I used hot glue to make sure it stayed together better. The snowflakes became Shurikens of ice, like Zanes weapon.
They could freeze their surroundings or people if the snowflake touched you!It is our variation of freeze tag.
My oldest made one look more like a ninja star!Do you see it.It is black.

Other ideas:
  • Put ice cubes in different places and have them predict which will melt first. You could put them in the fridge. On the counter in a cup,in a cup of water, outside in the sun or shade.
  • Another idea is to make ice tunnels
We are still working on practicing the letter I and counting.Don't worry. There will be more baby play ideas coming your way too!
We also talked about who you call in case of emergency(i.c.e.)We talked about 911,our phone number, fire, and earthquake.A ninja needs to train right?

I might have to do fire next......more ninja posts coming your way!

Day 10,11-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Day 10
Scripture:
Luke 2:1-3
We had a cookie decorating party with friends and family and we delivered it to only one neighbor because it has been so freezing this week!It was a lot of fun!I didn't take any pictures.Sad!

I made 60 cookies for 15 people(half were cutie pie kiddos)  and only 2 were left!I say that is a success! I hope no one got a tummy ache!Yummy yummy!

Day 11-
Luke 2:4-5
Read:Christmas family.
Here come the water works!I cried so you may need tissues but this story was beautiful and it reminded me of a family that helped us when we needed it most .We had almost lost my husband and soon to be Father, to a brain hemorrhage. Then he was laid off, after having our first born. One night we find a cooler of food, good food,at our door. There was steak, milk, bread and enough to get us by until my husband found a new job.It was a miracle and to this day we still do not know who gave us this wonderful service.

I is for Ice

The weather outside is frightful.......

But inside is so insightful.....

Since we have no place to go(without freezing)...

Play with ice!

We did some experimenting with this levitating ice cubes

Play with ice!

We had races with ice cubes.

Play with ice!

We talked about glaciers, icicles and snow flakes.Which we made from q-tips.

My daughter made a nativity scene. She is so clever!
So "ice" of you to stop by!

See what we did with snowflakes tomorrow. .....
hint:we did not hang it on our tree.

Day 9-25 days to a more Christ centered Christmas countdown

Tonight we watched a beautiful Christmas devotional

Then we looked at Christmas lights. We drove through because it is freezing outside!
