Letter J and N-Week 2 of Mexico

Devotion:Genesis 7:1-3
And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
:)3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.

Song:Build an Ark
WORDS AND MUSIC BY MARIANNE P. WILCOCKNoah was a prophet, a man who did not fear.
When he taught repentance, the people would not hear.
So the Lord told him to build a boat
That could hold a ton and stay afloat.
Then Noah started building and said within his heart:
“I will build an ark before it starts to rain.
I will follow the Lord and do all things in His name.
I’ll prepare ev’ry needful thing. I will walk in righteous ways.
When the rain starts to fall on me, I’ll be ready for that day.”
I can be like Noah. Yes, I can be prepared.
I can build my ark, and I’ll find safe shelter there.
I can do the things I know are right.
I can learn and pray with all my might.
And then when storm clouds come, I’ll be safe within my ark.
I will build my ark before it starts to rain.
I will follow the prophet, for he speaks in God’s name.
I’ll prepare ev’ry needful thing. I will walk in righteous ways.
When the rain starts to fall on me, I’ll be ready for that day.

Letter M and W-Secret mission to Mexico

Devotional:Power of prayer
Scripture: And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive" (Matthew 21:22).

Activity with M&M's-Each color represents a different person you can pray for.I wanted the kids to really think about what they say in thier prayers. The original lesson is found here.

Letter:M and W
Since I have been slowing down on the letters my Preschooler is starting to recognize them more.

My kids were really excited this week to receive a secret mission from Highlights magazine. It has been a lot of fun!It is a great way to introduce young kids to geography and different cultures! Here is the pamphlet it all came in.

Mission Inside!

The puzzle book is used to find who did it?What was stolen and where it is hidden?
It came with a free map too and so much more!
I can't forget the passport and villain cards! There are suspects with characteristics and criminal history. It is really geared toward 6 and up but we are loving it!What little boy doesn't like to be a secret agent?

We have learned about several landmarks so far.We talked about Mt. Popocatepetl and Copper Canyon Railway. We looked them up online to extend our learning.

I wanted my kids to get a feel for what it is like in Mexico.Meet Mahonri and Helaman from Mexico. My son said "They play soccer just like me!"

I love when he makes connections!

We looked at a picture of the Guadalajara  Mexico Temple. There are over 100 temples today!

We ate tacos and popcorn.Mexico is known for its corn and beans.

Next week:I will be posting more about our activities we did!

October intentions-Fall in love with Fall and the new you!

The "ber" months are speeding right along!Fall is the time of harvest and plenty.Whether it is your crops or your own ambitions, projects and personal growth. It is time to focus on remembering and reflecting. We are home more and should look for ways to connect with family and ourselves. Celebrate, and by so doing, it is like you are preparing yourself and fertilizing for new growth. It is a great time to let go,make changes and slow down.

1.Look ahead the next 4-6 months.Fall is the beginning of unpredictable weather and busy schedules.
2.Check my Christmas budget and gift lists. Also, buy tape and paper.
3.Take family Christmas card photo.
4.Plan dates with husband and kids.
5.Plan 15 minutes in morning and evening to myself.
6.Exercise once per week.
7.Prune trees and bushes.
8.Finish covering my living room chairs.

Practically perfect in every way.....or close enough!

Okay ladies, I am going to be very real right now. This is mostly because I have been overwhelmed at my messy house. When I vent this feeling to friends they immediately compliment me on what I do right. This gets me through the day or week until I let the mess get to me.So what is causing this feeling of inadequacy? I cannot pin point the origin exactly, but I know so many of us search for ways to improve ourselves, our home and ANYTHING to feed this hunger of perfection. Are we trying to be like Marry Poppins?
She says she is "practically perfect in every way."

But how do we measure perfection?

I was talking with a friend the other day, actually more like venting how my kids never want to pick up,or do thier chores. I came to find out that she had a similar problem! It is nice to know I am not alone! The idea popped into my head to have a girls night and ask what other mothers do in these situations.Hmmmm.......maybe we are all more like Marry Poppins in a way, after all .We all have our bag that we want to fill with tricks and things we need.We need ideas to pull out when the last idea doesn't work out!As long as there is enough ideas and ways of handling things we can keep pulling it out right?First in my bag of tricks is:

1.Each thing we do takes time. How much time does each task take?
The biggest problem I see is we have too much to do and not enough time. How do I know that?

  • Are you always rushed?
  • Are you hardly home?or your kids?
  • How do you feel when you are at home?

Think about these questions. What makes you feel rushed? You?Your commitments?Feeling like your kids and house need to look perfect?

2.What will your kids remember and what do they want you to remember?

3. Another conversation comes to mind I had with a very mature 10 year old.She offered to watch my kids so I could clean my house!I replied
"I wish you could rub off on my kids"
She replied
"I am sure they have other talents"

Her answer blew me away!If we are not strong in one area, there is something or other thing(s) we are GREAT at!
We can't be the best at everything. There is someone who has strength where you have a weakness!
Why can't we give ourselves a break? You are you,not your friend or neighbor or even your Mom.We were made special and unique.
If we did it all, something would take the back burner. This is where our goals and what we value the most comes into play!

4.What physically can we offer? You want to offer your best self?

5.Searching for the better way to do something?

6.Nagging is a waste of time and energy.

7.Teaching takes time too!

8.What works one day, week or month, may not work the next time!

9.Decide what area of your home is bothering you the most.Set a timer, turn off your phone or t.v. and go to work! No more excuses!

I grew up in a home that was always a mess.It bothered me then and it bothers now!The pain and reality of it all is I know it bothers my friends and my kids friends.

I have cried and been angry and it feels as if this mess and feelings will consume me.

Another quote by the great Marry Poppins that I love is:
"A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down"

So does a bowl full of ice cream :-)

It is time to get started.Start filling your own bag of tricks, just START!
