Review letters K-T

We talked about faith and hope as we read Hebrews11:1.Afterwards we did the activity,or you could say it's a finger play,found here

This week is review week for us.We are going over K-T.We start this off by walking on letters with music.When the music stops they say what letter they are on and the sound.My 2 year old recognized a few!My Kindergartner practiced writing her letters.

We focused on letter K-M.As we read books they tried to find those letters.We read blue train,green train and Fire Truck by Peter Sis.These books were the favorite from our Transportation theme last week.We actually read for over an hour.

We noticed a lot of words ending in ck:

K for Kisses and Kangaroos and Kittens too!

The weather was somewhat arm today so I hid eggs outside with the Hershey kisses for the game I mention below.(Gross Motor: searching and running around looking for eggs.)

We played this game with Hershey kisses.I bought circle stickers.I put numbers1-10 on the stickers. I put it on the bottom of the Hershey kisses.Here is the link where I got this fabulous idea!

They put their trail mix in the eggs which is more fine motor practice.

We took a lot of time for cuddles and kisses and books.


Nursery Rhyme:3 little Kittens
We have been working on this all week,I made this cute little puppet with a glove,felt and ribbon.My hubby sewed a little bell inside.Declan loved it!!!!

 
We touched his face with the felt so the baby could feel how soft it is.
We ave also been playing a flashlight game where the baby can watch the light on the wall and follow it to help develop his eyes.Of course we are still doing tummy time and talking and singing to him.The kids even sing to him sometimes.Too cute!!!

 Kids in the Kitchen part 2
On the Menu for tonight is hot dog boats.If you haven't tried these before you need to they are yummy and easy.Especially if you have left over mashed potatoes.

First we wash the potatoes because we didn't have any leftover potatoes.

After the potatoes were on the stove we prepared the hot dog boats.We talked about knife safety too!

The boats were then filled with the potatoes and the oven preheated to 325 degrees.
 
Add your favorite cheese on top it can be grated or in slices.

Its Corb's first time putting something in the oven so helped him to make sure he didn't touch the sides.

He made a lantern to put on our chandelier.


Here is the finished product after about 20 minutes of prep and 5 or so in the oven.Keep an eye on it when the cheese melts its done.We usually have it with green beans.We didn't have any.Sad :(

Music and Movement(Gross Motor):We jumped around to music like a Kangaroo and flew in the wind like Kites, and lots of freeze dance.

I decided to keep going over words of things found in a room.We had read In a peoples house by Dr.Seuss.We talked about what there was in a kitchen and wrote it down.Then the kids matched the words to what is in the Kitchen
 


When teaching kids how to cook,first you need to make sure you have taught your kids to be safe in the kitchen

Here is a good article on teaching safety in the kitchen.Some important things covered were washing your hands.Being careful near hot stove, and turning pots and pan handles in.I am always reminded of a quote from Gilmore Girls where Lorelei told her daughter Rori not to touch the stove knobs because they were the devils hands.I would not tell my kids that but it still makes me laugh.Don"t stick your hands in any blenders or near sharp blades.I remember when I was cooking and my oldest son who was about 3 or 4 then had gotten my meat scissors and in a split second cut baby Lexi's finger.Luckily she did not need stitches.I was horrified!!!

Cooking with young kids:
1.Help gather ingredients.My son loves to get the stool to help!
2.They can wash veggies and fruit, and potatoes.
3.If you pre- measure for them they can add,and stir ingredients
4.put mixture into tacos casseroles etc...,help steady a bowl while adult pours
5.kneed dough and put pizza toppings on or put cookies on baking sheet
6.They can wash and tear lettuce.
7.They can be a taste tester.My Mom always had us kids taste spaghetti noodles or lick the egg beaters.That was my favorite part!My least was the clean up but that is an important skill to teach and re-teach and teach again.You most likely will be teaching them to clean up till they move out!

I am going to choose each of my kids on different days to cook with.First is my Lexi.

Meal:Tuna Casserole
1.Cook the rice.
Lexi can measure,pour and put the water in.
 
2.Gather ingredients-butter,flower,onion powder,garlic powder,nutmeg,tuna,peas.Don't forget the measuring cups.It is pretty simple.I taught her how to make a roue.

  To make a roue melt 1/2 cup butter then add 1/2 cup flower.Stir for a couple of minutes.We added a dash of onion powder, and garlic powder.

Add 2 cups milk a little at at time.You stir it until the flour is incorporated in the milk.We added a little nutmeg.Lexi loved to stir it.She kept calling herself the cook.She would do ___ because she is the "cook". She said this over and over.

Add half a bag of peas and 2 cans of Tuna
We made it extra special by letting her decorate the table.Here is what she chose.So much fun!!!


We made it extra fancy too where we took the tuna can and put rice in it.




 

Letter K and Temple square trip

What do you use keys for? Unlock or lock things like cars and houses. You can also use them for traceing and rubbings.The kids loves this and then went around trying to open doors and asking what the keys were for.I didn't want to tell them all of them so they wouldn't try to take a joy ride in the car.

We went to Temple Square in Salt Lake City and City Creek.There is a kids water area.So we stopped for some sensory with water.They got soaked but the laughter and Joy was worth it all.Plus I was prepared with a change of clothes.Go me!

Fun picture by a water fountain.They wanted to know why people threw coins in the fountain.I told them it was to make a wish and hopee it comes true.Corb said "thats silly why would any one do that?"

We ate at PF Changs.They have a gluten free menu.I got lettuce wraps with chicken a rice.Yum I am going to try to make something like this at home. Rowie decided to feed Corban.He would say "Bite, bite'"

The Key to a wonderfull evening is to be together, have spontaneuos fun and be preapred! The best part was that there was no battle to get the kids to go to bed!



Letter of the week K

There are different kinds of things.Flowers, colors, trees,cars,letters, and the list can go on. First we looked at our families and how we all have them and that we are all different. We are our own special us. We read Ava, the one and only.ByKaren Hill. Ava got made fun of because of her freckles.She asked her dad what to do, and he said Ava should be a friend to the girl teasing her. It is a really sweet story and teaches the kids to be kind and to accept themselves for who they are.This is our introduction to being kind.

We finished our family tree. We added mother and father,grandpa and grandma.

Next we practiced writing letters and just being silly with Kool-aid.They had so much fun. Eventually they figured out that they could eat eat.I hadn't thought about the color so I chose red it was all over them so I think I will choose a clear color next time.

 

Kites are fun to do.We have tried flying several kites but we haven't been able to get it in the air. I cute triangles from construction paper to make 2 triangles to go together to form a kite.  What shape is that? A diamond.How many triangles? 2.Then after she matched the kites up to their correct colors I let her make things with it.

We may not have flown a kite in the sky but this lunch sure flew into the kids mouth.     

For study time we used Lexi's book again.I was to read 3 words for ex.bed,Fred,sled.She would point to the crayon red.Continue for each color.

 

She was having trouble with it so I found a print out.Then I cut them up into cards for her to match the rhymes and be more familiar with it.
