We are not hallow like a carved pumpkin,but we have a space within us or a gap that can only be filled by God.We talked about the sacrament and how it can fill us where we might be empty and lacking.Just like the pumpkins when the light of the spirit is in us we glow and show we are happy.We are hollow and empty without God and his plan for us.

In this book the bookstore owner only likes 3 things.So I asked my little guy his favorite 3.You could have Older kids write it out and why they like it.
Three things I like is:playing cars,eating cheese sandwiches,and reading books about Dinosaurs and trains.

We talked about how we need to get all our work done before Sunday.We also talked about working together and having a good attitude to make it go faster and so we can have more fun.There was a bit of eye rolling at first.I mentioned a story that shows how one man saw beyond his daily labor. A traveler passed a stone quarry and saw three men working. He asked each man what he was doing. Each man’s answer revealed a different attitude toward the same job. “I am cutting stone,” the first man answered. The second replied, “I am earning three gold pieces per day.” The third man smiled and said, “I am helping to build a house of God.”

For baby-6months and up.We read teach my baby Sounds and first words on the farm.I asked my Preschooler what sounds each animal made.We also did the this little piggy rhyme.Here is a fun way of turning this rhyme into a counting game.

Craft:paper plate cow.
What you need is paper plates,pink and black construction paper,glue and scissors.I
just drew the ears and nose on the pink paper,and legs on the black.Cut and paste.Easy peasy!My kind of craft!

My daughter named her cow Flopsy and
the boys called theirs Awesome dude.

They did a little dance for the baby.It was too cute!

E is for emergency-Fire prevention week preschool and baby lessons

This week is fire prevention week.This years theme is kitchen fires.I made some flames in a play house and we pretended to come to the rescue.

We also talked about 2 ways out and stop drop and roll.

Don't play with fire-We don't play with matches but we can play with match cars..vroooom!

W is for where is your eyes, ears and mouth and nose?A preschool and baby lesson about 5 senses.

W is for Western.This week we are doing The 5 senses Western style.So saddle up and mosey on to our town.Watch out for 6 letter bandits!

We made a wanted sign.It said wanted by God.Reward:eternal life.We talked about what God wants us to do.

Eyes-What color are your eyes,mine and the babies?
Have a staring contest.Who will laugh first?

How do we take care of our eyes?We don't scratch or rub them.We don't point things t peoples eyes or throw dirt or sand.We don't spray anything in our eyes.

They must use their eyes to focus and shoot the  letter bandits with the dart guns and say which letter it is.They loved to watch the letters fall!

For baby: Roll a ball.Cover one eye then the other,then both.We need both our eyes. I try to find special activities to do with the baby,usually during free time.This week we are doing flash cards from teach my baby.You show them the card and point to eyes,nose etc....then show them in the mirror where there eyes,nose is.

Here is a great article about nesting blocks.They are good for hand eye coordination and comparing sizes.They create spacial awareness.

For the baby.He is sitting up on his own and pushing up on all fours.No crawling!Thank goodness!!We did a few activities from Teach my baby.It is a great learning tool for babies all in one kit.I found mine at a thrift store.I was so excited!!We read the book and played with the nesting blocks.My preschooler played with the baby.He kept putting his cars inside and shaking them around.Each block has a mirror so your baby can see his/her reflection.Whatever block he had I would point and say the word and then say Where is your nose.The only thing he copied was when I stuck my tongue out.

Gross and fine motor nature walk:Collect as many things as you can that remind you of Fall.Then take construction paper and construct a face out out of your treasures!They turned out really cute.

Letter of the week O-Ring around the Rosie and circles

If you read my last few posts I am in a bit of a rut.I don't know if it is the changing seasons or what.I am still doing preschool but I am trying to find my way again,to accept all the changes there have been lately in my life.I will try to get back on my normal schedule but there is some major construction going on to my blueprint.But without further ado here is the letter: O

A circle is a crazy thing it has no sides just one round ring.(From Baby Einstein book)Sing Ring around the Rosie.Hold your baby and when we all fall down fall down gently to the ground.You may be playing this one for a while.
Round and round it goes where it stops nobody knows.Say this as you circle your finger over the baby and when it says stop and tickle your baby somewhere in his/her body.They will love the attention.My older kiddos love this too.I love to hear all the giggles it brings.
We also sang Wheels on the Bus.

We looked around the house for circles.We found a clock,door knob,plate and my rings We counted wheels on cars.The baby loved spinning the wheels.I said the same saying above.

At story time we read lots of books .Here is one about shapes good for baby and preschool age!

I introduced the letter O Using magnetic letters.There are a lot of activities you can do with magnetic letters!

R is for remember.We started off by talking about all the flags we were seeing.The colors of the flag are red,white and blue.We talked about America.Today we remember 9/11 and the attack on Twin Towers.my kids like most of the kids this generation did not know about the story of 9 /11 so I want to teach my preschooler.I showed him a picture of the towers and we talked about what errors was basically it was a really bad guy or bully.he said did they get put in timeout?So cute right?we talked about heroes and how the people to give up their lives on the plane and in the towers and fighting to save the people were heroes.Then,I found this video on YouTube called Through a child's eye- 9/11 tribute

We did still do some fun letter R activities.R is for race.We had fun racing each other to see who was the fastest.We also ran outside to see how far we can run in 10 seconds.In addition we also play the game to see who could be quiet the longest.R is for run.What other things can you race?Cars?Airplanes?What boy wouldn't love that?

For baby:For the next activity we need a bowl and a ball. I put the ball inside the bowl the baby was delighted to watch as he tried to grab the ball. It is a great practice for fine motor skills and you get so excited when he would get the ball.He is 7 months now and is sitting up pretty much on his own.At one point he flipped over the bowl and started drumming on it.My 3 year old wanted to join in so he got whole bunch of pots and pans and they were drumming together as we sang nursery rhymes we also for class to the rhythm of the nursery rhymes.

For the next activity we gotta ball and passed it back and forth to each other.R is for roll.He is doing plenty a rolling around and scooting all on his own.Big boy!

How to rock out with letter R

I live in a button factory with my Mama and my Papa and my family.
One day,my boss came up to me.
He said "Hi Joe,are you busy?
I said"No."
Turn (or push)the button with your right hand.
Repeat and when you get to turn the button add with your left hand,right foot,left foot,head or instead of hand you could do elbows.Be creative with this wacky song.
R is for running.Have kids run in place or in a circle.They could also race down the hall or classroom.
R is for rocket.Have child crouch down and count backwards 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1...blast off!My little guy loved this one.He is ready to blast off with cars in hand.

Craft:Rocket with child's name
Need:red construction paper and whatever colors you want.Make a medium size triangle and a large rectangle.Then make smaller squares to put each letter of their name.We need 5 squares for my Preschooler.

Then assemble your Rocket. Put triangle on top of rectangle.Then take your squares and have child arrange in order his name.

We had to do these straw rockets.All you need is paper and a straw.It was really cute to see my 3 year old take a huge breath in and then barely blow into the straw.He also kept biting it so it blocked the air.Kids are too funny!When my older kids got home they begged to make some too!The one on the top my 8th grader made on his own design.He is also really good at paper airplanes!

We are working on praying to know God better.I found this article How to seek and know the father and the son It talks about the pattern to learn of God.

• With softened hearts we are prepared to heed the Savior’s call to “search the scriptures” (John 5:39) and to humbly learn from them.

Snack and Fine motor:build G or whatever they want with grapes and you get to eat them.I also had him count the grapes.

 G for gas.Ran out of gas.He had to fill up his tank

 G for grasshopper.He jumped around like a grasshopper

 Alligator doesn't start with g but he is green and hungry.Watch out T-bone!

 This little grasshopper hitched a ride with us yesterday.He/she even survived the freeway!

Nature:We went on a walk to collect grass for our rectangle.Then we glued on the grass.

How to make a spider web

You will need cardboard and yarn.I used sewing thread.1.Cut cardboard into a circle then cut a hole in the middle.2Thread yarn through and wrap around cardboard.The kids can use different colors.Of course you have to add spiders.We used pom poms and scraps of paper.My 3 year old really is loving to cut things.The thread is a good sensory experience for the baby to touch.Of course watch young children closely around string.

For snack we had bug eyes(apples cut into circles)

We read color bugs reader.Since we have been talking about bugs last week and this week,we did fingerprint bugs on the letter U.My son lost interest and wanted to move on to stickers.

We also read Because a little bug went katchoo,by Rossetta Stone.

Activity:
Explain that you are going to try an experiment in self-discipline. Ask each young woman to move her right hand in a circle, then to move her left foot back and forth, then to move her head up and down. Now ask each of them to sit very quietly and concentrate on anything except what you are going to describe to them. Then describe in detail a delicious food or dessert.

Things that bug me:
How to talk about your emotions.I had him show me his best face for happy,sad,mad,surprised and for extra fun we did a silly face.Actually he could only do the first 2 then the rest were silly! We looked in the mirror so we could see the faces we made.Next we drew different faces on the mirror.The baby had fun looking in the mirror.I would say something like the baby is happy he is smiling! He didn't like it when I made a sad face.That just shows how in tune babies are to our feelings!

We read some books about bugs and emotions!Score for the Mommy!
In Winnie the Pooh and the honey tree there are very expressive pictures of Pooh bear.The story is all about trying to get some honey.He thinks he can trick the bees to steal some honey.I would ask my son if he was showing a certain emotion.He would tell me what he thought was happening in the pictures.

Gross motor:We did a bug hunt.He is ready to go!

 Here is a spider web.We saw many of those *shudder*.We saw butterflies,dragonflies,wasps,caterpillar.My preschooler kept saying "don't kill them he's my friend."

 We even heard and saw this little guy.He was eating bugs!Yummy!

 He is not a bug but he sure is cute!

Make head band to be a bug with construction paper,pipe cleaners,and pom poms.I gave him some paper to practice cutting.Too cute don't you think?

Music and movement: Pretend to be different bugs while wearing the head band.

 We tried some fun songs
Bug song A-hunting we will go, A-hunting we will go, We'll catch a (butterfly,spider,etc - let each child have a turn in choosing a bug) and put it in a box, and then we'll let it go!


Bee Hive finger play (Put your hands together like a bee hive and say...) This is my bee hive, but where are the bees, hidden inside where nobody sees, one two three four five (Pop fingers up while counting) And then Buzz the children with your fingers.

We ended with some bug juice and a sandwich.
